In the Rostocker Heide office , based in the municipality of Gelbensande , five municipalities were amalgamated on September 1, 1991 to handle their administrative business. The office is located in the northeast of the Rostock district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany) and borders the Western Pomerania-Rügen district and the independent Hanseatic city of Rostock . It is named after the Rostock Heath forest area, which largely belongs to Rostock . Due to its proximity to Rostock, the district has developed into a preferred residential location. From 1991 to 2002 the population grew by about 20%. On January 1, 2018, the office expanded to include the area of the dissolved municipality of Klein Kussewitz (previously Amt Carbäk ).
