The Krakow am See office is located in the south of the Rostock district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany). Four municipalities and the city of Krakow am See , where the administrative center is located, are united in this office to handle their administrative business. The office, which has existed since 1992, was expanded on July 1, 2004 to include the communities of the former Lalendorf office . The formerly independent municipality of Bellin was incorporated into the city of Krakow am See on January 1, 2005. On May 25, 2014, the Langhagen community was incorporated into Lalendorf.

In addition to agriculture and forestry, tourism increasingly determines the lake-rich area of the office, which has shares in the Nossentiner / Schwinzer Heide nature park and in the Mecklenburg Switzerland and Kummerower See nature park .
