Albrecht V, Duke of Mecklenburg (* 1397 ; † between June 1 and December 6, 1423 ) was Duke of Mecklenburg from 1412 until his death.

Albrecht was the son of Albrecht III. and his second wife Agnes, daughter of Duke Magnus of Braunschweig . Agnes took until 1415/1416 after the death of the father in accordance with an agreement with John IV. The guardianship of Albert V. This then ruled independently and functioned after the death of John IV. In 1422 as a guardian for his sons Henry IV. And Johann V.

On February 13, 1419 he founded the University of Rostock together with Johann IV of Mecklenburg and the council of the Hanseatic City of Rostock as the first university in Northern Germany and the entire Baltic Sea region.

Since 1413 he was engaged to Cäcilie , the second daughter of Burgrave Friedrich of Nuremberg , who later became Elector of the Mark Brandenburg . However, his bride was otherwise married. Instead, he married her 13-year-old sister Margarete in 1423 . Through the marriage contract Albrecht received Dömitz and Gorlosen as Wittum from his father-in-law . He died shortly after the wedding.
