Johann VI. (Mecklenburg)

Johann VI., Duke of Mecklenburg (* 1439 ; † 1474 ) was Duke of Mecklenburg .

Life

Johann was the second son of the Duke of Mecklenburg Henry IV. And Dorothea , daughter of the Brandenburg Margrave Friedrich I was born.

His earliest documented official act (along with the father) took place in 1451. In 1464 he was with his brother Albrecht jointly with several offices apanagiert and did not take part in more active government.

A marriage with Sophie, daughter of Erich II , Duke of Pomerania, which was contractually agreed in 1472 for 1474, did not take place because of his death. Johann was last mentioned in a document on May 20, 1474.

During a trip to Franconia to see his uncle, Elector Albrecht Achilles , he got the plague in Kulmbach and was probably buried in the St. Klaren Kloster (presumably Hof Monastery ) in Vogtland : After this, Hertzog Johans zu Meklenburg made him brother of his Fraw mother To visit Elector Albrechte, Marckgraffen zu Brandenburg, in Franckenland; But when he arrived in the city of Kulmbach, he was there attacked with the plague, died of it in the 35th year of his age, and was then buried in the Hoff im Voigtland in S. Klaren Kloster.
