Albrecht VI. (Mecklenburg)

Albrecht VI. von Mecklenburg (* 1438 ; † before April 27, 1483 ) was Duke of Mecklenburg .

Albrecht was the first son of Duke Heinrich IV of Mecklenburg and Dorothea , the daughter of the Brandenburg margrave Friedrich I. He was his co-regent until his father's death in 1477 and ruled together with his brothers after his death. In 1464 he received from his father, with his brother Johann VI. , for maintenance the bailiffs Güstrow, Plau, Laage and Stavenhagen. In 1479 his brother Balthasar , who was previously a coadjutor in the Schwerin diocese , also claimed power. On January 13, 1480, through the mediation of the mother, a division contract was signed. Through this Albrecht VI. the former principality of Werle , except for the city of Waren, city and country Penzlin, Kl. Broda, Röbel, city and country, and Bede and Bailiwick of Wredenhagen. His two brothers Magnus II and Balthasar jointly administered the rest of the duchy. Albrecht died after only three years and the division was therefore no longer applicable. Albrecht VI. is buried in Güstrow Cathedral. A painting depicting him is in the Doberan Minster .

He was married to Katharina von Lindow-Ruppin (1439 - before November 12, 1485) from 1466 or 1468 . The marriage remained childless.
