Siegfried Besser

Siegfried Besser (born June 21, 1941 in Görlitz ) is a German painter and graphic artist .

Life

After finishing school, attending the workers and farmers faculty for fine arts in Dresden and working as a transport worker , Siegfried Besser studied painting at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts from 1962 to 1967 . Here were among his teachers Gerhard Bondzin , Jutta Damme and Rudolf Bergander . Since then he has been working freelance.

During his studies, Siegfried Besser met his future wife Anke , who studied sculpture in Dresden . After completing her studies, he followed her to her hometown of Erfurt. In addition to his painting, he was also involved in the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR (VBK). From 1974 to 1988 he was a member of the central board of the VBK, from 1978 to 1988 chairman of the VBK in the Erfurt district . Together with his wife, he designed the memorial on the history of the German labor movement at the Eisenach Party Conference Memorial in 1869 .

From 1985 to 1990 Siegfried Besser worked as an honorary lecturer at the Erfurt University of Education and from 1990 to 1994 he held a teaching position at the Erfurt University of Applied Sciences .

Better to accept the loss of his mobile mural “Cosmic Picnic”, which he had created for the Interhotel Erfurt. After its structural reconstruction, the picture could no longer be found.

In 1996 Siegfried Besser and his wife moved from Erfurt to Marxhagen in Mecklenburg , where he still lives and works today. His wife died in 2019.
