Jutta Damme

Jutta Damme (born August 13, 1929 in Meißen ; † April 4, 2002 in Dresden ) was a German painter and graphic artist .

Life

Damme was born as the daughter of the porcelain painter Otto Damme and the bookbinder Ella Damme (née Streller). From 1944 to 1949 she completed an apprenticeship as a porcelain painter at the State Porcelain Manufactory in Meißen.

From 1949 to 1953 she studied at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Dresden ( HfBK ) with Fritz Dähn and Rudolf Bergander , where she worked as an assistant and aspirant from 1953 to 1957. From 1957 to 1960 she worked as a freelancer in Dresden, before she became an assistant in the art education department from 1960 to 1964. In 1964 she was appointed lecturer. In 1967 he was appointed professor of painting (the second woman after Lea Grundig in this office). From 1979 until her retirement in 1989 she was the head of a specialist class for painting and graphics. She had been proposed as the successor to Rector Gerhard Kettner, which she refused. Then Damme worked as a freelance artist in Dresden until she fell ill with cancer.

In 1973 she was awarded the GDR Art Prize. In 1978 she was awarded the Bronze Patriotic Order of Merit in a collective .

Jutta Damme died on April 4, 2002 in Dresden's St. Joseph Hospital at the age of 72.
