Rudolf Bergander

Rudolf Bergander (born May 22, 1909 in Meißen , † April 10, 1970 in Dresden ) was a German painter and rector of the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts .

Life

Bergander completed his training as a porcelain painter from 1923 and worked in the State Porcelain Manufactory in Meißen . From 1928 to 1932 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden with Richard Müller and as a master student with Otto Dix . From 1928 he was a member of the KPD , from 1929 a member of the Association of Revolutionary Visual Artists . From 1933 to 1940 he lived as a freelance artist in Meissen. In 1940 he joined the NSDAP . Until 1945 he was a map maker in the Wehrmacht .

After the war, Bergander joined the SED in 1946 . In 1947 he became a member of the Dresden artist group “ Das Ufer ”. Until he started working as a lecturer in painting at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts in 1949, Bergander worked as a freelancer. In 1951 he was appointed professor. In the same year he went on a study trip to Bulgaria . In 1955/56 he went to Italy to study .

From 1952 to 1958 and 1964/65 he was rector of the University of Fine Arts in Dresden. Since 1961 he was a member and permanent secretary for fine arts of the German Academy of the Arts . I.

Bergander is buried together with his wife, the gynecologist Ursula Bergander, in the Heidefriedhof in Dresden.
