Erhard Frommhold
Erhard Frommhold (born May 20, 1928 in Altenburg ; † October 17, 2007 in Dresden ) was one of the most important art historians and most innovative publicists in the German Democratic Republic .
Live and act
Frommhold grew up in an anti-fascist family and initially trained as a building plumber before studying sociology , art and literary history in Jena at the end of the 1940s . In 1951 he came to the Verlag der Kunst in Dresden . From 1952 to 1991 he worked there first as a lecturer , then as editor-in-chief and also wrote monographs a . a. about Otto Nagel , Hans and Lea Grundig , Lasar Segall and Klaus Wittkugel . A special achievement from Frommhold is the founding of the Fundus series at Verlag der Kunst, an international collection of Marxist texts on aesthetics , art history and cultural history that did not follow the official party line and was nevertheless able to establish itself successfully.
Frommhold died in Dresden in 2007 and was buried anonymously in the urn community hall of the Tolkewitz urn grove .
