Zepkow is a district of the municipality Eldetal in the southwest of the Mecklenburg Lake District in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

Elde

Zepkow is located in the Mecklenburg Lake District in the south of Mecklenburg, near the state border with Brandenburg . The agricultural place is located on the upper Elde not far from the source area. The hilly area south of Zepkow reaches 90  m above sea level. NHN . The only lake within the local area is the Demminer See . The Massower See and the Mönchsee are about three kilometers away . The closest cities are Röbel / Müritz and Wittstock / Dosse .

history

In 1285, the originally Slavic settled place, laid out as an anger village, appeared for the first time in a document. The Landding (vassal court) was relocated at the request of the knighthood from Wredenhagen Castle (at that time "Novum Castrum Wenden") to the Hofgut of the Lords of Werle in or near Zepkow (probably to the Kornhorst castle wall). Until the end of the 16th century, Zepkow remained the seat of the Wredenhagen office. The stone church in Zepkow also dates from the 13th century.

On May 26, 2019, Zepkow merged with Grabow-Below , Massow and Wredenhagen to form the new municipality of Eldetal . The last mayor was Manfred Pitann.

Cattle breeding facility (2016)

Zepkow has a large cattle production facility . The heifer rearing facility LPG Zepkow existed from 1976 to 1991. The industrial facility was used for the rearing of high-pregnant heifers , which were sold nationally and internationally from the seventh month of gestation, annually 2300 heifers and purchase of female calves (72 pieces per week). The herd consisted of 1040 calves up to six months of age and 4480 heifers (sixth month up to high pregnancy). Until the turnaround and peaceful revolution in the GDR, the black and white dairy cattle were raised . Since 1991/92 around 4000 fattening animals of different breeds have been kept.

On April 19, 2010, BASF's genetically modified potatoes were grown commercially for the first time in Europe in Zepkow, seven weeks after their approval by the EU .

There are also some craft businesses in town (including construction and carpentry). To the north of Zepkow is the Bütow / Zepkow wind farm operated by the Enertrag company with a total output of 19.2 MW.

Although the federal autobahn 19 (Rostock – Dreieck Wittstock / Dosse ) runs through the local area, Zepkow is away from the national road connections. The Röbel motorway junction is around 9 km away, the federal highway 198 in the municipality of Bütow around 9 km. The nearest train station is in Wittstock / Dosse, 17 km away .

Infrastructure

Cultural center of the village is developed by the Zepkower citizens wrought . In 1997 a new sports home was built.
