history

With the exception of considerable timber harvesting after the end of the Second World War , no forestry has been used so far. During the GDR times, the pine stands were used for seed production. From 1983 the Soviet military used the surrounding area as a missile base and bunker area . The final clearance of the areas did not take place until 2003.

Flora and fauna

The area was created during the last Ice Age and, as a sander, adjoins the terminal moraine of the Pomeranian Ice Advance to the north . The Sandugkensee is a drainless depression that remained after the ice thawed. The majority of the nature reserve is dominated by pine trees with blueberries in the undergrowth. The moss layer is taken up by the red stem moss . The Kesselmoor covers an area of about five hectares with peat moss . Disturbance-sensitive species such as white-tailed eagles , black woodpeckers and common ravens breed in the area.
