The nature reserve Drewitzer See with Lübowsee and Dreiersee is a 1455 hectare nature reserve in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . It is located north of the village of Alt Schwerin in the Nossentiner / Schwinzer Heide nature reserve . The Highway 19 forms the western boundary. The area designation took place on September 24, 1990 with the aim of preserving the lakes mentioned with adjoining wet meadows, bogs and grasslands. The Drewitzer See has a special underwater fauna with numerous candelabrum algae .

The state of the area is considered to be good. Disturbances come from the bathing area to the south and from nutrient inputs from the surrounding agricultural areas and the motorway. According to EU law, the areas are in the FFH area of the same name and in a bird sanctuary .

Several public paths make it possible to enter the areas.

History and water balance

The Drewitzer lake provides a trough for melting water from the last glaciation . The channel was up to 30 meters deep carved out and cut a Sander area in the north to the glacial till in the south of the protected area. After the ice thawed, dunes were blown up on the east and west banks. The Drewitzer See is a flow-through lake that is fed by groundwater towards the north in the direction of Nebel and Krakower Obersee and has periodically fluctuating water levels. Adjacent there are flow-through bogs with a peat thickness of sometimes over half a meter.

Human settlement in the area has been documented by a large stone grave north of Sparow since the Neolithic . The surrounding lake areas were completely deforested by the Slavs in the Middle Ages , so that the dune formation of the past started again. Several tar ovens and glassworks operated in the area from the 18th century. The areas were only afforested with pines when a systematic forestry began in the 19th century. For this purpose, the moors were partially drained with trenches. The Schmettausche map from 1794 shows a ditch connection to the Plauer See in the south . Areas that had fallen dry also served as meadows. Arable and grassland areas west of the Drewitzer See were afforested after 1945. Tourist use began in the 1960s. From 1962 to 1990 the forests were a state hunting area. In 1978 the highway was built.

Flora and fauna

The underwater vegetation of the Drewitzer See and Dreiersee, which is primarily occupied by candelabrum algae, is significant. Twelve species have been identified. In the direction of the south of the Drewitzer See, the nutrient loads increase and the armchairs are thinning out. Other underwater plants include spawning herbs such as thread pondweed, floating pondweed and gnarled pondweed. The lime-rich bank fringes are occupied by coniferous swamp rush , little-flowered swamp rush and oeder-yellow sedge . On the west bank, pipe grass meadows cover the bank and are used as sheep pasture. The Lübowsee to the east is eutrophic and has a different vegetation with swamp fern and reed beds. There are also economic grasslands with cane grass .

66 mollusc species have been identified in the nature reserve,  40 of which are water-bound, which place high demands on the water quality. Examples are petite cochlea , smooth and flat post squirrel, circular pea clam and flattened pond clam . There are the small and large vendace . In addition, 21  dragonfly species and 120 bird species were detected.
