The nature reserve Hullerbusch and Schmaler Luzin is a 340 hectare nature reserve in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , which is located between the towns of Feldberg and Carwitz . The nature reserve includes the lake called Schmaler Luzin with wooded bank areas and the mixed forest to the east called Hullerbusch on sites with many blocks . The legal determination took place on February 1, 1939.

location

The nature reserve is located in the Feldberger Seenlandschaft nature park and is classified as an FFH area and bird sanctuary under EU law . The current state of the area is considered to be satisfactory.

history

The areas were decisively shaped by the last ice age . The Narrow Luzin, designed as a channel lake , represents a washout beneath the glacier ice, which is surrounded by the surrounding terminal moraine . In the Hullerbusch, various shapes were shaped by the ice: there are block packs , sand and small bodies of water that go back to the shapes of dead ice . Due to the strong relief of the bank area and the Hullerbusch, these are probably old forest sites that were only rarely used. The current forest-field distribution is already shown on a map by Tilemann Stella from 1578.

Hullerbusch

The Hullerbusch area of the nature reserve is bordered by the edge of the forest in the direction of Wittenhagen in the north and the area around Hotel Hullerbusch and the Hauptmannsberg nature reserve in the south. The Schmale Luzin belongs to this area to the west and the Zansen to the east. The headland, which stretches from Wittenhagen to Carwitz , is two kilometers in the northeast and 380 meters in the southwest. The Hullerbusch consists largely of beech forest with individual pines , birches and, rarely, oaks . The banks are covered with black alder , in the northern part there is a fir afforestation . The Hünenwall separates the ground moraine from the terminal moraine d. H. this is where the glaciers of the Vistula Ice Age have advanced. There are several moors and kettle moors in the beech forest area . Significant plants here are skullcap , common loosestrife and, in the north-eastern moor, which also has a drain to the Scharteisen , cotton grass and marsh calla .

Narrow lucin

The lake, which had been undisturbed for centuries, was artificially changed at the end of the 18th century: On the one hand, the water lily canal created a connection to the Feldberger Haussee , on the other hand, a dam cut off the Schmalen Luzin from the Wide Luzin . Narrow Luzin, which was described as an oligotrophic clear water lake until the 1920s, was then subjected to enormous nutrient input, which significantly worsened the water quality. Renaturation measures between 1996 and 2000 enabled the phosphate content to be reduced by half. In recent years, mesotrophic conditions have returned , which is shown by types of indicators . Extensive remedial measures, such as reducing nutrient inputs and deep water aeration with the support of natural calcite precipitation , have a positive effect on the lake. The areas are partly owned by the Foundation for Environment and Nature Conservation MV.

Flora and fauna

The floating shrimp Mysis relicta is regarded as an Ice Age relic species . This serves as a food source for the vendace , which means that the narrow luzin has two very special inhabitants. After both species were almost extinct in GDR times, the populations were able to recover in recent years as a result of the renaturation work. The lake is mainly bordered by beech forests, which are characterized as slope forests due to the steep location of the shore. Dry locations are found here and there.

The middle and black woodpecker , stock dove , red kite , miniature flycatcher and crane live in the riparian forests . Kingfishers are sporadic. Different species of ducks, such as mallards , hadpockets , tufted ducks and pochards can be observed.
