The Breite Luzin is a mesotrophic lake in the Feldberg lake landscape in the east of Mecklenburg. Its name is derived from the Slavic tribe of the Liutizen, who once lived here .
location
The lake has a length of around 3.3 kilometers and a width of 1.8 kilometers. It is located in the Feldberger Seenlandschaft nature park northeast of its main town Feldberg , in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in the Mecklenburg Lake District in East Mecklenburg.
Emergence
It is a glacial tongue basin lake that was formed during the Vistula Ice Age . After the Schaalsee and the Tiefen See, the Breite Luzin is the third deepest lake in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
structure
The lake is divided into two parts, which are separated by the Mönkenwerder headland . The western part is the significantly larger and deeper one. The north-western bank is very steep above and below the water, which is why there is hardly any reed there. For the most part it is made up of mixed forest, the main component of which is beech . The south-eastern part of the lake is bordered by pastures and arable land. However, there is also a black alder belt on the bank . In contrast to the rest, the south-eastern bank is flatter and has a wide belt of reeds . The eastern part of the lake (Lütter See) is much smaller and shallower, has two centrally located islands and is up to 10 meters deep. The banks here are relatively flat, mostly grassed and wooded. The neck, which was separated from the Narrow Luzin by the construction of the earth dam , must now be assigned to the Broad Luzin.
use
The lake is used for recreational purposes and for fishing. There are four beaches on it, one of which is on the west bank at the Feldberger Hütte, a nudist beach is on the south-east bank and another beach is on the north-east bank. The fourth beach is on the L 231 (on Lütten See).
Only locals are allowed to drive on the lake with internal combustion engine boats.
fauna
Common fish species are: eel , burbot , pike , perch , roach , ruff , lead , tench , bleak , whitefish and the endemic lucin whitefish ; Crucian carp , bream , three-spined stickleback , carp , silver carp , pikeperch and catfish rarely occur . The Siberian bullhead ( Cottus poecilopus ) is very rare.
The crustaceans and molluscs are the American crayfish , the hover shrimp ( Mysis relicta ) and the great river mussel ( Unio tumidus ), which are now extremely rare in Germany.
