The Zierker See is located on the western outskirts of Neustrelitz and south of the Havel spring area . To the south, the Zierker See is connected to the Woblitzsee of the Havel via the Kammer Canal. It is named after the Zierke district on the lake. The water has a catchment area of about 22.7 km².
The Zierker See is part of the 97-kilometer-long federal waterway Obere Havel-Wasserstraße (OHW), which begins at the port of Neustrelitz with km 94.41 and belongs to waterway class I; The Eberswalde Waterways and Shipping Office is responsible .
The lake is relatively shallow, very muddy and has not been suitable for swimming for years. The bathing area formerly located on the eastern bank was closed to bathing, and the structural facilities were completely removed after 1960. The lake is about 2.6 kilometers long and up to 1.8 kilometers wide. Due to the initially untreated or later mechanically treated wastewater that was fed into the lake, it is heavily eutrophicated .
The construction of the Chamber Canal, carried out as an artificial extension of the Gorbach from 1840 to 1843, resulted in the lowering of the water level, so that the average depth is now 1.6 meters. In the northern area, the Zierker See is only half a meter deep in places.
Lime was extracted on the western bank in the 19th century, creating water-filled "lime holes" that now form a special biotope.
“Chinese Pavilion” , built in 1821 by FW Buttel as a laundry room, now used as a summer café.
