The Inselsee is an approximately 4.58 km² lake, south of the town of Güstrow in the Rostock district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . It owes its name to the beautiful island in the south of the lake . This divides the lake into a northern part (Güstrower part) and a southern part (Gutower See). The Güstrow part is shallow, while the Gutower part is over 6 meters deep on average. The island is connected to the mainland by a bridge. The lake is around 4.1 kilometers long and mostly less than one kilometer wide. The island lake is up to 15 meters deep. On the east bank of the lake is the small Güstrow district of Heidberg and in the north it borders on the Südstadt district. There are many holiday homes on the lake and it serves the city of Güstrow as a local recreation area.
The entire lake is part of the FFH area Inselsee Güstrow . The western part of the lake is in the Gutower Moor and Schöninsel nature reserve .
A regular regatta is u. a. the “Silver Ax” for the pirate class , which has been organized since 1956 by the water sports club Güstrow 1928 eV (formerly BSG Lokomotive Güstrow, sailing section) and the sports club “Einheit” Güstrow, sailing department. In addition, the BDS-Pokal took place on the Inselsee in 1983 with a record participation of 73 boats and in 2005 the “International German Youth Championship” (IDJM) in sailing, both also in the pirate class.
