The Goldberger See is located in the Sternberg lake landscape , east of Goldberg in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and has an oval shape. It is located in a charming, natural landscape in the Nossentiner / Schwinzer Heide nature reserve . While the east side is very natural and wooded, the west side is used for agriculture. On the south bank there is a silting bog with reed stands, sedge beds, ponds, alder quarries and wet meadows as well as silted peat cuttings. The area is habitat for some orchid species, amphibians and reed-dwelling bird species.
The Goldberger See is a downright Muldensee and lies in a basin together with the Großer Medower See and the Woostener See . The average depth is 2.1 meters, so the lake is very shallow. This shallow depth means that the oxygen in the water becomes scarce on hot summer days and this condition can then lead to fish death, as happened in 1908.
The Mildenitz flows through it.
history
Around 1756 the Goldberger See was also called the Great Lake. Only a quarter belonged to the ducal office of Goldberg, three quarters to Woosten.
freetime and recreation
In the northwest of the water there is a campsite and a hotel complex. Rowing boats can be used on the lake.
In 2002 the ice sailing world championships took place on the lake.
South of the lake, the federal highway 192 and the railway line of the disused Wismar-Karow line run past the shore.
