The Woostener See or Wooster See is located in the Sternberg lake landscape in the urban area of Goldberg in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . The eponymous district of Woosten is located near the south-east bank. There is also a swimming area here.

geography

The body of water has fish-shaped contours, with a wider western and narrower eastern part. In the western part there is a smaller wooded island. From the west the Grenzgraben and Graben flow out of the Kleiner Medower See , to the east the Wendish Graben drains towards Goldberger See . While the north and south banks rise steeply, the banks in the west and east along the trenches are flat and swampy. The Woostener See lies in a basin together with the Großer Medower See and the Goldberger See.

The western part of the lake is almost completely reeded. The maximum depth is about three meters.

Usage history

A castle that had existed on the island in the Woostener See since the 10th century was abandoned in favor of its location in the village in the 13th century.

The place Woosten, first mentioned in 1269, was referred to in the oldest records as Woceten or Wutzen and was associated with the Slavic word Ustije (mouth). According to Wiebeking's map of 1786, the Woostener See flowed into the Goldberger See and was regarded as a bay. In the years 1843 to 1846 the lake level was lowered. In 1884 the Woostener See was also called Binnensee.

In 1596 the Goldberg officials Barthold von Bülow , Hartig von Pressentin and Detlof von Warnstedt filed a lawsuit against the Woosten landowner Elar von Grabow because of obstructing the questioning of witnesses in a dispute over the fishing rights on the Woostener See, which had been laid down in a contract of 1482 . It was also about the inclusion of the areas for calves (smaller fishing nets) and a tree on which an Adebars nest was.

From 1806 to 1863 there was a boat on the Finkenwerder lakeside for churchgoers to cross to the Woosten church . After 1862 the church and school path from Finkenwerder to Woosten was abolished.
