history

Today's place Woosten is of Slavic origin. It is believed that it was the ancestral home of the von Woosten family. According to Kühnel, the name could be derived from the Old Slavic word ustije for mouth .

A castle that had existed on the island in the Woostener See since the 10th century was abandoned in favor of its location in the village in the 13th century. In 1296 Nikolaus von Werle sold the place to the Neuenkamp monastery . In the 13th and 14th centuries the von Woosten were feudal lords , after which the place was knightly owned by the von Grabow family for over three centuries . In 1752 it fell to the ducal chamber.

At the site of the former moated castle, a manor house was built in 1740, which is no longer preserved due to the demolition in 1939. The Hamburg merchant Schwarz, who had acquired the estate in 1938, planned a new building, but this was no longer possible due to Schwarz's death and the outbreak of war. What remains is the inspector's house, which served as accommodation for 15 refugee families after the end of the war and the expulsion of Schwarz's sister. The estate was initially divided into 52 new farmer sites of around six hectares each.

Woosten was an independent municipality until June 30, 1965, to which the place Neu Woosten also belonged. On July 1, 1965, it was incorporated into Wendisch goods . With the incorporation of Wendisch Waren to Goldberg on January 1, 2012, Woosten became a district of this town.
