Nicholas II (Werle)
Nikolaus II, Herr zu Werle (* before 1275 - † February 18, 1316 in what is now the desert Pustow or Pustekow near the Güstrow district of Klueß) was Herr zu Werle-Parchim from 1283 to 1316, and from 1292 Herr zu Werle .
In 1291, Nikolaus' uncle Heinrich I was slain by his own sons while hunting, as they saw their inheritance threatened after their father's remarriage. After a long war, Nikolaus succeeded in finding the sons who formed an alliance with Heinrich II. Von Mecklenburg and Albrecht III. had received from Brandenburg to disempower. This enabled him to reunite the Werle-Parchim and Werle-Güstrow lines around 1292. After his death, the principality split again into two lines. While his son Johann III. von Werle-Goldberg got the Principality of Werle-Goldberg, his brother Johann II received the Principality of Werle-Güstrow.
Nikolaus was in his first marriage since 1292 with Richsa of Denmark, the daughter of Erik V of Denmark († before October 27, 1308) and in the second marriage after 1308 with Mathilde zu Braunschweig and Lüneburg, daughter of the Prince of Lüneburg Otto II Strictly married. In 1311 Nikolaus traveled to Montpellier in southern France, where he hoped to be cured from leprosy (old name for leprosy ) at the famous medical college . The course of the disease was only slowed down, so he resigned from government and lived in seclusion on Pustow.
