Johann II. (Werle)

Johann II, lord of Werle [-Güstrow], called Der Kahle (* after 1250; † August 27, 1337 ), was co-regent of Werle from 1309 to 1316 and lord of Werle-Güstrow from 1316 to 1337.

He was the second eldest son of Johann I and Sophie von Lindau-Ruppin.

From 1309 he ruled over Werle together with his brother Nikolaus II . After his death in 1316 it was decided to divide and Johann took over the rule over the part Werle-Güstrow and Johann III. , the son of Nicholas II , took over the rule of Werle-Goldberg. On May 4, 1326, the Danish King Christoph II promised Johann together with the Prince of Mecklenburg Heinrich II that the Rügischen possessions would be enfeoffed. However , these claims could not be enforced in the War of the Rügen Succession . He had been married to Mechthild († 1333/1344), the daughter of Heinrich I of Braunschweig , since 1311 . He got rid of his debts through several trials against Jews for desecrating the host in his domain (Güstrow, Krakow am See). Johann was buried in the Doberan Minster .
