Pro D2 is the second highest division of men in French rugby union . This second tier for professional teams was introduced in 2000 and is below the top 14 . It is organized by the Ligue Nationale de Rugby on behalf of the French Ministry of Sport and the Fédération Française de Rugby .
16 teams are involved. The best team will be promoted directly, the second promoted team will be determined in a play-off among the teams in places 2 to 5 (two semi-finals, one final). The two worst teams are relegated to the top amateur league, Fédérale 1 .
