The 2015/16 season was the 117th edition of the French Rugby Union Championship. It comprised 14 teams in the top division Top 14 and 16 teams in the second highest division Pro D2 .

Top 14

The regular season of the top 14 consisted of 26 game days (one first and one second round). It began on August 22, 2015 and lasted until June 4, 2016. The two best-placed teams qualified directly for the semi-finals and met the winners of the barrage games, which were played between the third to sixth placed teams. The semi-final winners met in the final on June 24, 2016 and played for the Bouclier de Brennus championship trophy at Camp Nou . The defending champion was Stade Français .

    The regular season of Pro D2 includes 30 game days. It starts on August 21, 2015 and lasts until May 20, 2016. The top-ranked team will move up directly to the top 14. The teams in places 2 to 5 contest a playoff for the second promotion place. Two teams relegated to the Amateur League Fédérale 1 .

    1The newly promoted Lille Métropole Rugby did not receive a professional license due to financial problems and remained in Fédérale 1.
    2On November 24, 2015, a total of 15 points were deducted from Tarbes Pyrénées Rugby for forging documents relating to the club's financial situation. In addition, the team will be relegated to Fédérale 1. On January 25, 2016, the penalty was reduced by 7 points to 8 points, while the relegation was confirmed.
    3On May 26, 2016, the Biarritz Olympique , the CS Bourgoin-Jallieu , and the RC Narbonne were relegated to Fédérale 1 for financial reasons. On July 7th and 11th, 2016, this decision was successfully rejected by the LNR Appeal Committee.
