French Rugby Union Championship 1984/85

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 1984/85 season was the 86th edition of the French Rugby Union Championship. It comprised 40 teams in the top division (today's top 14 ).

The championship was divided into two phases. It began with the group stage, in which ten teams played against each other in four groups. The top two in each group went straight to the knockout round, while the teams in positions 3 to 6 fought an additional barrage . This was followed by the eighth, quarter and semi-finals. In the final, which took place on May 25, 1985 in the Parc des Princes in Paris , the two semi-final winners met and played for the Bouclier de Brennus . Here sat Stade Toulousain against RC Toulon through and won for the eighth time the championship.
