The 1970/71 season was the 72nd edition of the French Rugby Union Championship. It comprised 64 teams in the top division (today's top 14 ).
The championship was divided into two phases. It began with the group stage, in which eight teams played against each other in eight groups. The top four in each group made it to the knockout round. Sixteenth, eighth, quarter and semi-finals followed. In the final, which took place on May 16, 1971 in Parc Lescure in Bordeaux , the two semi-final winners met and played for the Bouclier de Brennus . The AS Béziers prevailed against the RC Toulon and won the championship title for the second time.
