Union Athlétique Gaillacoise (UA Gaillac for short) is a rugby union club from the French town of Gaillac in the Tarn department . He is represented in the fourth highest league, Fédérale 2 . The home games are played at the Stade Laborie-Bernard Laporte. It is named after Bernard Laporte , the former national team coach who was part of the UA Gaillac junior division until 1984.

history

The association was founded in 1901 under the name Stade Gaillacois . Already in 1905 the name was changed to Stade Athlétique Gaillacois . In December 1940, the Vichy regime forced all sports clubs in cities with a population of less than 50,000 to form larger units, and as a result of this, the Union Athlétique Gaillacoise was established in Gaillac . Since then, the association has also joined sections for football, boxing, tennis, athletics, swimming and volleyball. In 1948 the association merged with that of the railway workers and was called Union Athlétique des Cheminots de Gaillac ; just two years later, however, the old name was reintroduced.

After some regional titles, the UA Gaillac rose to the third division in 1959 and in the second division in 1961. From 1968 to 1978 the club was represented in the highest division and then slipped back into the lower amateur leagues. In 2001, the UA Gaillac made it to the top amateur league Fédérale 1 , in 2006 the club won the title of French amateur champion and rose to the second highest league Pro D2 . Due to massive financial difficulties, Gaillac received no professional license at the end of the 2006/07 season and was relegated to the Fédérale 3.
