The Club Athlétique Bordeaux-Bègles Gironde ( CABBG for short ) is a multi-sport club from the French city of Bègles in the Gironde department , a southern suburb of Bordeaux . The first team of the Rugby Union department merged in March 2006 with that of Stade Bordelais to form Union Bordeaux Bègles . The junior teams are not affected by this measure and will remain independent. The greatest successes of the rugby team are the championship titles in 1969 and 1991.
history
In March 1907 the club was founded under the name Club Athlétique Béglais (CAB). As early as 1913, the club rose to the highest league and then belonged to it for 90 years. In 1949 the CAB won its first major title, the Coupe de France . In 1967 he reached the final of the championship for the first time, but was subject to US Montauban . Two years later, the CAB was again in the championship final and won its first championship title against Stade Toulousain .
In 1983 the association changed its name to CA Bègles-Bordeaux and in 1988 finally to CA Bordeaux-Bègles Gironde (CABBG). In 1991, the club met Stade Toulousain again in the championship final and won the French championship title for the second time. The CABBG also won the prestigious Yves du Manoir Challenge in 1991 and 1995 . In the 1995/96 and 1998/99 seasons he took part in the European Heineken Cup competition, but did not get beyond the preliminary round.
The CABBG had to relegate from the first division in 2003 after the financial commission of the Ligue Nationale de Rugby had refused the club due to financial problems. A year later, the club went bankrupt and was forced to play in the top amateur league Fédérale 1 . Finally, in March 2006, the first team of the CABBG was united with that of the local rival Stade Bordelais (who played in the Pro D2 at the time). The aim was to build a team that would make it into the top 14 league .
The CA Bordeaux-Bègles Gironde will be the new main tenant of the Stade Jacques-Chaban-Delmas from the 2015/16 season , as the Girondins Bordeaux football club will move to the then completed Grand Stade de Bordeaux . The rugby club has been using the stadium for games with great audience interest since 2011.
