The 1975/76 season was the 77th edition of the French Rugby Union Championship. It comprised 40 (instead of the previous 64) teams in the top division (today's top 14 ).
The championship was divided into two phases. It began with the group stage, in which eight teams played against each other in five groups. The five best-placed teams in each group made it to the knockout round, as did the seven best teams in Division B. This was followed by the sixteenth, eighth, quarter and semi-finals. In the final, which took place on May 23, 1976 in the Parc des Princes in Paris , the two semi-final winners met and played for the Bouclier de Brennus . The SU Agen prevailed against the AS Béziers and won the championship title for the sixth time.
