The 2004/05 season was the 106th edition of the French Rugby Union Championship. It comprised 16 teams each in the top division Top 16 and the second highest division Pro D2 .

Top 16

The regular season of the Top 16 had 30 game days (one first and one second round). The four best-placed teams qualified for the semi-finals. In the final, which took place on June 11, 2005 in the Stade de France , the semi-final winners played for the Bouclier de Brennus championship trophy . Here triumphed Biarritz Olympique against the reigning champions Stade Français and won for the fourth time the championship.

The teams in places 14 to 16 relegated: While AS Béziers and FC also relegated to the second division Pro D2 , FC Grenoble was not given a professional license due to financial problems and was relegated to the amateur league Fédérale 1 . The team in 13th place played in a barrage against the playoff winner of the Pro D2 to maintain the league; it sat section paloise with 46:13 against Stade Aurillacois Cantal Auvergne through and remained first class.

    The regular season lasted 30 game days (one first and one second round). The best-ranked team, the RC Toulon , rose directly to the first division. For the second promotion place, the teams in places 2 to 5 contested a playoff consisting of semi-finals and finals. The final winner Stade Aurillacois then played against the 13th of the first division ( Section Paloise ), but lost the game and stayed in the Pro D2. Two teams had to relegate to the amateur league Fédérale 1 , the USA Limoges and the CA Périgueux .
