Juan Martín Hernández (born August 7, 1982 in Buenos Aires ) is a no longer active Argentine rugby union player . He played as a connector or goalkeeper for Toulon . He was a member of the Argentine national team .

Career

Hernández began his career with the Argentine club Deportiva Francesa , where he played until 2003. Following the 2003 World Cup , he moved to Stade Français. In his first season in France he managed to win the league top 14 with the team .

Hernández made his debut for Argentina on April 27, 2003 against Paraguay . In the following years he was a member of the national team, at the 2007 World Cup his international breakthrough finally followed due to excellent performance and the surprising move into the semi-finals, where Argentina had to admit defeat to eventual world champions South Africa . He was then nominated as one of five players for Player of the Year by the International Rugby Board . Bryan Habana won the election. In the run-up to the World Cup, he had won the French championship title for the second time with Stade Français.

In 2009 he left the Paris Club to play in South Africa for a year . He signed a contract with the Sharks, for whom he played in the 2010 Super 14 season. Previously he was active for the Natal Sharks in the South African championship Currie Cup . For the 2010/11 season he moved to the Paris club Racing Métro 92 .

Hernández's uncle Patricio was a national soccer player, while his sister María de la Paz Hernández won a silver and a bronze medal with the national hockey team.
