The Ernest-Wallon Stadium is a rugby - the stadium in the district Sept Deniers of the French city of Toulouse , Haute-Garonne . It is located on Rue des Troènes and is the home ground of the rugby union club Stade Toulousain , which is represented in the top division, the Top 14 . The sports facility has space for 19,500 spectators. It is named after Ernest Wallon, the club's first president.
Stade Toulousain used the Stade des Ponts Jumeaux from 1907 , which had been the venue for the final of the French championship several times until the early 1950s. It was demolished in 1980 because it had to make way for the western ring road that was under construction at the time . As a replacement, the new stadium was built just over a kilometer north of it. Construction began in 1978 and was completed four years later.
During the Rugby Union World Cup in 1991 , the facility hosted a preliminary round match between Canada and Romania . For top games, Stade Toulousain uses the Municipal Stadium, which is almost twice as large .
