French Rugby Union Championship 2000/01

The 2000/01 season was the 102nd edition of the French Rugby Union Championship. It comprised 21 teams in the top division Division 1 and twelve teams in the second highest division Pro D2 .

Division 1

The regular season of Division 1 began with a placement round in which eleven or ten teams met in a preliminary and a second round. The four best placed qualified for the quarter-finals. The semi-finals were followed on June 9, 2001 in the Stade de France by the final for the Bouclier de Brennus . In this Stade Toulousain won against AS Montferrandaise and thus won the championship title for the 16th time.

At the end of the season, six teams relegated to the Pro D2 , as the top division was reduced to 16 teams. FC Auch , Stade Aurillacois , CA Brive , Stade Montois and CA Périgueux were affected by the direct relegation . The FC Grenoble lost the playoff of the two group nights against Section Paloise with 22:31 and were also relegated.

    The regular season of the Pro D2, which was held for the first time this year, lasted 22 match days (one first and one second round). The four best-ranked teams contested a playoff for the only promotion place, consisting of semi-finals and finals. The US Montauban prevailed in the final against the RC Toulon and rose.

    The RC Nîmes was relegated to Fédérale 1 . Originally, the last placed Racing Club de France should have been relegated. However, the club received after the merger with the US Métro to Racing Métro 92 the professional license, so that the team could remain in the Pro D2. On the other hand, RC Istres did not receive a professional license for financial reasons and was forcibly relegated.
