Castres Olympique is a rugby union club from the French city of Castres in the Tarn department . He is five times French champion and plays in the top 14 league . The home games are played at the Stade Pierre-Fabre . The club's motto is "Tous Ensemble" ( German all together ).
history
In 1898, some ex-Castres high school students formed a team at the Café de l'Europe to practice their favorite sport. The rugby team was a division of a sports club in the early years. However, its members were dissatisfied with the dominant position of cycling within this club, so they split off in 1906 and founded their own club. They called this Castres Olympique; the club colors were now blue-white-gray instead of the previous yellow-black.
The newly founded club reached the top division in 1921, after only 15 years, and has never been relegated since then. In 1948 Castres won both the Coupe de France and the first championship title, after beating Stade Montois in the final . The second championship title followed in 1950, and the Racing Club de France was defeated in the final. From the early 1960s, Castres Olympique was no longer able to build on previous successes and was mostly to be found in the back of the table.
In 1988, Pierre Fabre, the founder of the pharmaceutical company Laboratoires Pierre Fabre , decided to take over the association and bring it back to the top. He invested large sums of money and introduced professional structures. This paid off a few years later. In 1993, Castres Olympique became French champions for the third time (after beating FC Grenoble in the final) and was again in the final in 1995, which was lost to Stade Toulousain . In 2013, Castres Olympique defeated the RC Toulon in the final . A year later, Castres Olympique was again in the final against RC Toulon, but this time lost. In 2018, Castres defeated the Montpellier Hérault RC in the championship final 29:13 and thus secured his fifth title.
At European level, Castres Olympique reached the final of the European Challenge Cup twice (1997 and 2000) and won the European Shield in 2003 .
