The Club Sportif Bourgoin-Jallieu ( CSBJ for short ) is a rugby union club from the French town of Bourgoin-Jallieu in the Isère department . He is represented in the second highest league Pro D2 and plays his home games in the Stade Pierre-Rajon .
history
Rugby was first played in Bourgoin-Jallieu in 1897 after a student returning from Great Britain learned about the game and made it known in his home country. The association was founded in 1906; initially it was called Club Sportif Bergusien ( the inhabitants of Bourgoin are called Bergusiens ). During the interwar period, the club moved back and forth between the third and second division several times, and in 1949 it finally established itself in the second division. In 1956 it took its current name.
In 1965, the CSJB finished the second division championship in first place and rose times to the highest French league. In the following 15 years, however, the team proved to be a real “lift team” (descent in 1968, ascent in 1971, renewed descent in 1972, immediate resurgence in 1973, third descent in 1979). In 1981 the CSJB was finally able to establish itself in the top division.
As a result, the CSJB mostly classified in the midfield without ever reaching the top. The club had its most successful period to date in the 1990s. In 1997 he won the European Challenge Cup ; in the final Castres Olympique was defeated. In the same year, the CSJB also reached the championship finals, but lost to the favorite Stade Toulousain . 1999 followed another final participation in the European Challenge Cup (defeat against AS Montferrandaise ). There were four more final defeats for the CSJB between 1997 and 2003 in the Challenge Yves du Manoir . In 2011 the club had to relegate to the Pro D2. In 2012, the club did not receive a professional license for financial reasons and was relegated to Fédérale 1. In 2013 the rise was successful.
