history

A teacher at the local high school and a dentist, both from England , brought rugby to Agen. Together with a local they founded the association in 1900. This also included other departments, but rugby was dominant from an early age. The SU Agen first reached and won the championship finals in 1930 (against US Quillan ). In the following years, the club also achieved success in the Challenge Yves du Manoir with a victory in 1932 and a final in 1933.

The 1940s were a very successful period for the club. In 1943, the SU Agen beat the Stade Bordelais team in the Coupe de France final , but lost the championship final to Aviron Bayonnais . In 1945 the SU Agen won their second championship title, with a final victory against FC Lourdes . In the same year, the team also won the cup final against AS Montferrandaise . Agen reached the championship final again in 1947, but lost to Stade Toulousain .

After that, the winning streak broke down and over the next decade things got rather quiet around the SU Agen. In the 1960s, however, the team again had a winning streak. She won the league title three times, in 1962 against AS Béziers , in 1965 against CA Brive and in 1966 against US Dax . In addition, he won the Challenge Yves du Manoir in 1963. In 1970 and 1977 there were two final defeats in the Challenge, but in 1976 Agen won the championship title for the sixth time; in the final AS Béziers was defeated.

In 1982 Agen won the seventh league title after beating Aviron Bayonnais in the final . In 1983 he won the Challenge for the third time. In 1984 and 1985, the team reached the championship final, but lost both times (against AS Béziers and Stade Toulousain). Agen won the last championship title for the time being in 1988 after beating Stadoceste Tarbais in the final .

The team has not celebrated any significant successes since winning the Challenge in 1992. In 1998 she lost in the final of the European Challenge Cup against US Colomiers , four years later in the championship final against Biarritz Olympique . At the end of the 2006/07 season, Agen rose from the top 14 league . The promotion succeeded at the end of the 2009/10 season. After the end of the 2012/13 season, the team had to be relegated again, but was able to celebrate their return to the top 14 in 2014/15.
