The 2017/18 season was the 119th edition of the French Rugby Union Championship. It comprised 14 teams in the top division Top 14 and 16 teams in the second highest division Pro D2 .

Top 14

The regular season of the top 14 consisted of 26 game days (one first and one second round). It began on August 26, 2017 and lasted until May 5, 2018. The two best-placed teams qualified directly for the semi-finals and met the winners of the quarter-finals, which were played between the third to sixth placed teams. The semi-final winners met in the final on June 2, 2018 and will play for the Bouclier de Brennus championship trophy at the Stade de France . The team in 13th place carried out a barrage against the final loser of the Pro D2 , while the team in 14th place relegated directly to the Pro D2. The defending champion was ASM Clermont Auvergne , the title won by Castres Olympique .

    The regular season of Pro D2 consisted of 30 game days. It began on August 18, 2017 and lasted until April 13, 2018. The two best-placed teams qualified directly for the semi-finals, while the teams in places 3 to 6 played a playoff for the two other semi-finals. The winner of the final rose to the top 14, the loser of the final played a playoff against the 13th of the top 14. Two teams were relegated to the Fédérale 1 amateur league .
