Forfait

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Forfait ( French forfait , "lump sum", "forfeit", "cancellation fee") denotes either a sum of money that is to be paid when a contract is withdrawn or a fine that the owner of a racehorse entered in a horse race must pay if he doesn't let it participate.

In addition to the French, the English spelling Forfeit is also used.

In some sports, such as B. football , there is a forfait win if the opposing team is unable to play at the start of the game or refuses to continue a game in progress. Likewise, if so many players are absent due to injuries or being sent off during the game that a team has fewer than seven players on the field. In football, depending on the football association, the match is then rated as a 2-0, 3-0 or 5-0 victory for the other team. Similar regulations exist in handball (10: 0, unless the goal difference of the game is greater), baseball (6: 0), American football (50: 0), cricket and many other team sports.
