Matt Giteau (born September 29, 1982 in Sydney ) is an Australian rugby union player who is active for the Australian national team and the RC Toulon . It usually plays on the inner three-quarters or connector , but can also be used as a scrum half . Since his debut in 2002 he has become a top international player.

Career

On November 16, 2002 Giteau ran for the first time for the Australian national team, the Wallabies, in a game against England . At the time he was only 20 years old and had not played a game for the Brumbies in the Super 12 before . Despite his very little experience, he was part of the squad for the 2003 World Cup and came to five missions in which he was able to achieve four attempts . In the final against England in his hometown of Sydney, he was substituted on, but could not prevent the defeat of the Wallabies. After the World Cup, Giteau was an integral part of the national team and was part of the regular formation at the summer friendly and the Tri Nations tournament in 2004 , where he was also responsible for the kicks.

In April 2006, he announced that he would be joining the Western Force for the 2007 season. Due to an injury he was out for a long time this year, but got fit again in time for the Tri Nations. In the game against South Africa in Brisbane , which Australia won 49-0, he scored two attempts. For one of these attempts he received the "Suncorp Try of the Year Award". He was part of the squad for the 2007 World Cup , where he got three attempts and some successful elevation and penalties.

Giteau left the Western Force team in 2010 and played for the Brumbies again for a season. For the 2011/12 season he moved to France for RC Toulon .

Private life

His father Ron Giteau was the captain of the Australian rugby league team Canberra Raiders . His sister Kristy has managed to play in both rugby union and rugby league national teams in Australia. Matt Giteau has been in a relationship with netball player Bianca Franklin since 2003 .
