Rusape is a city with 30,316 inhabitants (as of 2012) in the province of Manicaland in eastern Zimbabwe . Rusape is 290 kilometers from the capital Harare .

Due to its location on a main road, Rusape has developed into an important traffic junction. Most of the population lives in Vengere Township, south of the city center .

The city center consists of three main shopping streets that are parallel to each other. Two of the largest supermarket chains in the country are represented here with large branches. The other shops consist of small and medium-sized independent supermarkets, tool shops, clothing and furnishing stores, a large number of “phoneshops”, butchers, a few restaurants, two banks, a post office, etc.

On the eastern edge of the center there is a hospital and another, but much smaller and less funded, is in Vengere. In contrast to the other parts of the city, there is also a small shopping center and market, as well as sometimes very large “beer halls” (pubs) and a stadium. The city center and Vengere are separated by a large market, which is also the starting and destination point, but mainly a transit station for a large number of buses. In the south-west of the city there is a smaller industrial area, which for example consists of hardware stores, fertilizer distributors and a brewery.

In the populated areas, home-grown fruit and vegetables are offered everywhere on the streets in order to secure a subsistence level.

In all parts of the city and also in the rural areas there are a large number of Christian churches and a mosque in Vengere.

About three kilometers south of the center is Lake Rusape , created by a large dam . There is a small restaurant here, but there are hardly any houses directly on the lake.

Off the paved road, twelve kilometers south of the city, is the "Serengeti Training Center", which is used for events such as farmer and anti-AIDS workshops as well as for European visitors as accommodation, starting point for excursions or work camps.
