The Neustrelitzer Kleinseenland is a forest landscape rich in water in the south of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and in the north of Brandenburg . It forms a natural area within the greater region of Mecklenburg Lake District with an area of 1771.1 km². Its south-western area is occupied by the Rheinsberg lake area . The main towns in the Neustrelitz Kleinseenland are Fürstenberg / Havel , Lychen , Mirow , Neustrelitz , Rheinsberg and Wesenberg .

The northern part of the lake landscape is drained via the Havel , which also has its origin here. The Prebelow Canal connects to the Rheinsberg Lake District, which drains over the Rhin . There is a connection to the Mecklenburg Lake District via the Mirower Canal and the Alte Fahrt . The Feldberger Seenlandschaft nature park adjoins to the east .

Large parts of the northern lake district lie in the two parts ("Müritz" and "Serrahn") of the Müritz National Park . In the south, the Neustrelitz Kleinseenland is partially included in the Stechlin-Ruppiner Land Nature Park and in the Uckermärkische Seen Nature Park .

The Lakeland was formed in the course of the Vistula Ice Age about 12,000 years ago in the glacial valleys and sands of the Pomeranian Stadium.

The lake district lies in the sand landscape, which is bordered in the north and south by the main terminal moraine ranges of the Pomeranian and Frankfurt stadiums and is interspersed with moraine peaks of an intermediate series that runs parallel to the terminal moraine and reaches heights of over 100 m. Outstanding elevations are the Serrahner Berge in the western part and the Käflingsberg in the eastern part .

The landscape is characterized by a multitude of small lakes, the largest of which are the Zierker See , Große Labussee and Useriner See in the northern part and the Rheinsberger See and the Große Stechlinsee in the south. The lakes are mostly elongated channel lakes and arranged as chains of lakes in various directions.

For a few years now, efforts have been made by the Mecklenburg Strelitz Nature Conservation Union to convert parts of the Neustrelitz Kleinseenplatte nature reserve and rudiments of the Müritz Seenpark and Havelquellseen Kratzeburg nature reserves into a Strelitz Kleinseenplatte nature reserve .

In the south the Neustrelitz Kleinseenland borders on the Wittstock-Ruppiner Heide , the Granseer Platte , the Zehdenick-Spandauer Havelniederung , the Schorfheide and the Templiner Platte .
