Hut Canal
The Hüttenkanal is a little over three kilometers long canal from 1881. It runs in the far north of the state of Brandenburg and connects the Rheinsberg waters with the rest of the Neustrelitz Kleinseenland .
However, there are differences between old and new map material in terms of the designation of the channels in this area. On more recent maps, only the section between Schlabornsee and Tietzowsee is referred to as the Hüttenkanal. This section is also called the Jagow Canal. The place Zechlinerhütte is on the eastern bank of the canal.
The canal between the Großer Prebelowsee and Kleines Pälitzsee near Kleinzerlang is called the Prebelow Canal, sometimes also called the Wolfsbrucher Canal. At the Prebelow Canal, a height difference of around 40 centimeters in the water level is overcome by the Wolfsbruch lock . The Kleine Pälitzsee is higher than the Rheinsberg waters.
The name 'Hüttenkanal' comes from the numerous glassworks in the Rheinsberg area, the products of which were transported over the canal.
