The Kleine Pälitzsee is located in the Mecklenburg Lake District 12 kilometers southeast of Mirow and 9 kilometers south of Wesenberg in the south of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania on the border with Brandenburg ; this runs on the south bank of the lake.

The water area is located entirely in the municipal area of Wustrow . The Rheinsberg districts of Kleinzerlang , Kolonie Großzerlang and Großzerlang are on the south bank . In the north-east there is the small settlement Pälitzhof, a district of Wustrow. The articulated lake has a pronounced southern basin and a narrow, elongated eastern half. It is around 3400 meters long, up to 1200 meters in the western part and up to 500 meters wide in the eastern part.

The lake gets its inflow from the west from the Canower See. It has drains to the southwest to the Wolfsbrucher Canal of the Rheinsberg waters and to the east to the Großer Pälitzsee. In the Wolfsbruch Canal (formerly: Schleusenkanal, GDR: also Hüttenkanal ), a height difference in water level to the west of the valley of around 0.40 meters is overcome by the Wolfsbruch lock .

From west to east, the Kleine Pälitzsee is part of the 32-kilometer-long federal waterway Müritz-Havel-Wasserstraße (MHW) of waterway class I. Its large southern basin, south of the MHW fairway, belongs to the so-called other inland waterway of the federal Rheinsberger Gewässer, whose km 0 lies in the axis of the MHW fairway. The Eberswalde Waterways and Shipping Office is responsible .

There is a camping site on the north-west bank of the lake and the federal camp of the Association of Christian Scouts and Boy Scouts on the south bank .
