Rosewood and Zippelower Bachtal nature reserve

The Rosenholz und Zippelower Bachtal nature reserve is a 160 hectare nature reserve in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . It is located north of Hohenzieritz and includes the forest areas Zippelower Holz and Rosenholz as well as the Zippelower Bach, which flows rapidly from west to east, and the small-scale Eichsee. The legal determination took place on February 17, 1960 with two extensions in 1966 and 1967. The protection purpose consists in the preservation of a largely undisturbed spring bog , a spring stream and surrounding deciduous forests.

The state of the area is classified as only satisfactory, as there have been heavy forest interventions in recent years that did not meet the protection goal.

The area can be accessed on several hiking trails.

Together with the Rosenholz and Zippelower Bachtal nature reserves, the Ziemenbachtal , Nonnenbachtal , Nonnenhof and Hellberge nature reserves to the east form a representative section of the landscape of the upper Tollensebecken .

history

The areas of today's protected area are embedded in a ground moraine landscape created during the Ice Age . The Zippelower Bach was created as a two kilometer long and 120 meter wide meltwater channel. It is surrounded by mountain ranges that are now covered with forest. Human settlement has been documented since the Stone Age by 13 cone graves at Eichsee. The Schmettausche map from 1788 shows the areas as a stream valley with a meadow. The rosewood served as a place of celebration for the ducal family in Hohenzieritz. Queen Luise is said to have liked to be there. From the Louis fir planted in her honor, it was possible to see the Lieps at that time . Today the area is densely forested. In the course of the land reform in 1946, the land came into the ownership of new farmers, who only used parts of them. Strong forest interventions in the 1990s had a more negative effect.

Flora and fauna

The higher areas are planted with pearl grass - beech forest throughout . Larkspur , wood anemones , liverwort , meadow priemel and forest gold star bloom in great numbers in spring . Alder trees and ash trees line the Zippelower Bach . At the beginning of the valley you can find foam herb , swamp fern and long-lasting sedge . The Zippelower Bach flows through the Eichsee, in which yellow pond roses can be found. To the east the area merges into a spring moor. Numerous birds live in the area, including white-tailed eagles , cranes , jackdaws , hawks , common ravens and stock doves . Common , tree and moor frogs have been identified.
