Sprockfitz nature reserve

The Sprockfitz nature reserve is a nature reserve in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . It includes Lake Sprockfitz, which fluctuates greatly in terms of water level, and adjacent forest areas. The nature reserve immediately to the east of Landstrasse 34 was designated on January 9, 1957 with a size of 27 hectares. Surrounding places are the town of Feldberg in the southeast and Weitendorf in the north.

history

View over the lake Sprockfitz

A deep gully was carved out through the glaciers of the last Ice Age , in which Sprockfitz, Hechtsee, Weitendorfer Haussee and Cantnitzer See are located today . The channel silted up and the lakes mentioned were left behind as remains. In Tilemann Stella's map from 1578, the surrounding areas of the Sprockfitz are forested, while to the north near Weitendorf there are no forest areas. As early as the end of the 18th century, the forest / open land distribution that still exists today can be found, as the Schmettausche map shows. The southern areas of today's protected area have been forested since the end of the Ice Age.

In the 1970s, the surrounding arable and grassland areas were extensively ameliorated and drained into the Sprockfitz, which had a negative effect on the water quality.

today

The current state of the area is rated as satisfactory. By introducing drainage water from surrounding arable land, the lake water is enriched with nutrients ( eutrophication ). The forest areas are only used for forestry to a limited extent.

The nature reserve is located in the Feldberger Seenlandschaft nature park and is classified as an FFH area and bird sanctuary under EU law . With the exception of a hiking trail to the west, it is not possible to enter the areas.

Flora and fauna

Due to the strong periodic water level changes, the area of the lake changes. There is evidence of fluctuations in the lake area from 4 to 24 hectares. Banks that occasionally fall dry are populated by lawns made from dwarf rush , sedge and speedwell . Creeping lawns with swamp dysentery and dwarf feltweed spreads. The vegetation of the originally nutrient-poor lake has largely disappeared today. In the northern part of the lake there are residues of candelabrum algae and grass spawn .

Bushes of silver willow and alder line the edge of the lake. The existing waste wood in the southern part of the area provides habitat for black woodpeckers , stock doves and miniature flycatchers. Brooding little ringed plovers have been observed on the dry banks . The otter lives in the area.
