The Backofensee is a lake within the municipality of Jabel in the Mecklenburg Lake District in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .
The 1.6 hectare lake is located in the nature reserve Seen- und Bruchlandschaft south of Alt Gaarz , around 2.5 kilometers south of the Jabel district of Alt Gaarz and around 3.7 kilometers northwest of Jabel in a forest area.
The water has a north-south extension of a maximum of 100 meters and a west-east extension of 200 meters. The water level is 62.8 meters above sea level . There are not always water-bearing ditch connections from the northeastern Krummen See (also Krogsee) and to the southwest adjoining Lankhagensee .
The lake lies in the sands of the Pomeranian main ice edge during the Vistula Ice Age . Like its neighbors, the Backofensee is a lime-rich flow-through lake. It was once isolated, the connecting trenches were not artificially created until the 18th century.
The north-west bank is designated as a biotope with its peat birch , pine bog forest , peat moss , ear willow bushes and black alder .
