Skiing Safety Foundation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Safety in Skiing Foundation (SIS) is a foundation under civil law with legal capacity. It was built on July 10, 1975 by the Friends of Skisports e. V./DSV aktiv and the German Ski Association eV On September 22nd, 1975 the Bavarian State Ministry for Education and Culture approved the foundation, which has since been recognized as a non-profit organization.

History and work

A high number of injuries among German skiers in the 1960s and 1970s was decisive for the establishment of the SIS. The goals of the SIS are therefore fundamentally geared towards the safety and health of all skiers in Germany. Therefore the DSV-Skiwacht is still a central point of the activities of the SIS. One of the most important achievements is the creation of rules for the behavior of skiers on slopes , which are also known as the “ten commandments of skiing” and were later adopted by the International Ski Federation FIS. In addition to safety, the foundation is also involved in issues relating to health and the environment in connection with skiing . For this purpose, research assignments and projects are funded that are related to the topics of ski law and environmental protection, but are also intended to shed light on medical questions relating to skiing. From such research, some essential working principles for the German Ski Association have arisen, including the DSV ski plans, the DSV environmental plan and the DSV health plan.

The SIS Board of Trustees is made up of representatives from politics, sport and business.

financing

The SIS Foundation is set up as a self-help organization for skiing in Germany and fulfills its tasks in a free, private initiative from contributions from the ski athletes organized in the FdS as well as from funding contributions from sponsors, from publisher income and donations as well as the investment income of the foundation capital. In this way, the Safety in Skiing Foundation was able to generate 34.06 million euros in the 32 years of its existence and spend it on projects and measures. In addition to the ARAG insurance group (which brings in half a million euros annually for sponsoring the DSV Ski Guard), the Friends of Skiing (for skiing and the environment) are among the main sponsors of the SIS. In the 2007/2008 financial year, SIS had a budget volume of income and expenditure of around 1.4 million euros each.
