Sitifis

Sitifi (s) was the capital of the late ancient Roman province of Mauretania Sitifensis and was named Colonia Nerviana Augusta Martialis Veteranorum Sitifensium . In today's city, some buildings from the 3rd and 4th centuries have been preserved: city ​​walls , basilicas , ancient amphitheater . The place is today in the area of ​​the city of Sétif in northeast Algeria , in the province of the same name .

Members of the Legio II Italica are likely to have stayed in the area around Sitifis , and tombstones of two of their soldiers are known from the city.

Sitifis was a bishopric in late antiquity, and the titular bishopric of Sitifis goes back to this.
