Diemitz is a district of the city of Halle (Saale) in Saxony-Anhalt with 1909 inhabitants and was an independent village until 1950.

Geographical location

Diemitz is located in the eastern district of the city of Halle (Saale) . In the east of Diemitz is the Dautzsch district , in the southeast Büschdorf . West boundaries Freiimfelde / Kanenaer way and at the water tower / Thaerviertel to and north Merry future and Mötzlich . The district lies to the east of one of the most striking bridges in Halle (Saale), the Berlin Bridge .

history

Settlement of the Diemitz area can be proven as early as the end of the 8th century. The place is mentioned for the first time in the documents in 1370, when Henricus and Bertram Peisker bought the village and estate from Halle . The village also had a monastery courtyard with a church. The parish was supplied by the vicar of the Gerbstedter nunnery. In the Thirty Years' War Diemitz has been completely destroyed and remained until the end uninhabited. In 1647 the community returned and rebuilt the village church .

Diemitz belonged to the Giebichenstein office in the hall circle of the Archbishopric of Magdeburg . In 1680 the place came with the Saalkreis to the Duchy of Magdeburg under Brandenburg-Prussian rule.

With the Peace of Tilsit in 1807 Diemitz was incorporated into the Kingdom of Westphalia and assigned to the Halle district in the Saale department. The place belonged to the canton Halle-Land . After Napoleon's defeat and the end of the Kingdom of Westphalia, Napoleon's allied opponents liberated the Saalkreis in early October 1813. During the political reorganization after the Congress of Vienna in 1815, the place was attached to the administrative district of Merseburg in the Prussian province of Saxony and assigned to the Saalkreis.

On July 1, 1950, Diemitz was incorporated into Halle (Saale).

The Halle-Diemitz water tower, built in 1887, was demolished in 2012.

Since the fall of the Wall, numerous new single-family homes have been built in Diemitz. This led to an increase in the population.

Local supply

In Diemitz itself there is a food discounter ( Netto Marken-Discount ) as well as a hardware store ( Obi (hardware store) ) and a renovation discounter ( tedox ). However, the local shopping centers at the Berliner Brücke and in Büschdorf are not far away. The Halle shopping park (HEP) and the Halle Center are also only a few minutes' drive away.

economy

A large industrial area makes Diemitz with the former industrial area East an important business location of Halle (Saale) . After the fall of the Berlin Wall, many companies here went bankrupt over the long term. In the meantime, however, more and more companies are settling in Diemitz and creating new jobs.

Many large companies in Halle are based in Diemitz, including Kathi Rainer Thiele and Raab Karcher . Also the TÜV Nord has an academy here. But many small companies also have a branch in Diemitz.

Transport & Infrastructure

Through the Hallesche Verkehrs-AG , Diemitz is well connected to local public transport. The bus routes 27 and 32 run from Diemitz to the tram stops Berliner Brücke and depot Freiimfelder Straße . The Steintorbrücke S-Bahn station is located in the neighboring district of Am Wasserturm / Thaerviertel.

Diemitz is also well connected to the road network. The main streets in Diemitz are Fritz-Hoffmann-Strasse and Reideburger Landstrasse, Berliner Strasse and Reideburger Strasse, which borders the district in the south. On the eastern edge of the district, the HES Ost (Europachaussee) was completed in December 2018 after a construction period of 20 years, thus relieving the center of Halle significantly.

Due to its past as an industrial location, Diemitz has a ramified rail network for freight traffic, which is now largely no longer used.
