The Nördliche Neustadt is a district of the Neustadt district of Halle with 16,338 inhabitants in the West district. The district extends over an area of 2.1 km² over the northeastern part of the Neustadt of Halle.

geography

The Nördliche Neustadt is one of four districts that formerly formed the former city of Halle-Neustadt . The street An der Magistrale separates the Nördliche Neustadt from the Südliche Neustadt and the Nietlebener Straße from the Westliche Neustadt and Nietleben . In the north, a park forms the border to the Heide-Süd district, which was built on from 1994 onwards, with the Weinberg Campus . Before that, the Halle-Nietleben airfield was located on the site .

In the east, which borders Saaleaue on; this is regularly exposed to floods, which would actually also affect the northern new town, because the eastern half of the northern new town is in the natural floodplain of the Saale. However, two levees prevent this; In addition, a well gallery ensures that the groundwater does not rise into the cellars of the building. In years with exceptional floods, like the last one in 2013 , the residents of the eastern half of the district were evacuated. The border to the Saale floodplain is the Gimritzer Damm, which is part of the Halle-Saale loop .

traffic

The traffic junction of the Rennbahnkreuz is located in the east of the quarter. This is where the Gimritzer Damm from the direction of Lettin , Kröllwitz and Heide-Nord / Blumenau , the main road that connects Halle-Neustadt with the old town and Riebeckplatz , as well as the expressway federal highway 80 from the direction of Lutherstadt Eisleben meet . There is also a junction for trams of the Hallesche Verkehrs-AG from the direction of Marktplatz, Kröllwitz and Neustadt. These open up the south of the district as well as the east.

The north of the Northern New Town is served by buses. In the western part there is also a stop of the S-Bahn Central Germany in a tunnel . S-Bahn trains run from here to Nietleben and towards the main train station .

Before the district was built, a railway line , which had meanwhile been dismantled in the district and coming from Hettstedt via Dölau , ran through the northern Neustadt. This ended a little further east on the edge of the old town of Halle at the Klaustor train station , which was, however, replaced by a department store.

Buildings

The district consists mainly of WBS 70 prefabricated buildings . Centrally located are the Neustadt market square and the weekly market . In the south is also the health center of the western district, the former central polyclinic . Landmarks are the high-rise buildings at the Rennbahnkreuz and the so-called discs in the Neustädter Passage; five eighteen storeys, which were built from 1970 as student dormitories. Except for pane D, these are not renovated and are empty. Other special structures are the so-called Y high-rise buildings.

An ice rink was located on the eastern edge of the district from 1968 to 2016 . However, this was demolished due to flood damage and replaced by a new building inside the city quarter.

The indoor swimming pool, built in 1969, with eight 50 m lanes and a diving hall, was completely renovated in 1997. It offers 100 seats and 100 standing places at events.

The town hall, which was only built in 1989 in the south of the district, was never able to fulfill its function due to the incorporation of Neustadt into Halle in May 1990. It was renovated in 2016 and houses a branch of the Saxony-Anhalt State Office for Surveying and Geoinformation.

Recreation

Apart from the many green spaces in the district, there is a long park in the north with a well-developed network of paths. In the western area you can find the Bruchsee , a flooded old quarry, which is surrounded by a green area. Shell limestone banks were mined here in the past .

In the Saaleaue district to the east there is the local recreation area of the Peißnitzinsel and the Ziegelwiese, where many young people grill and relax from the day in the summer. Furthermore, the Lantern Festival takes place here every year at the end of summer .

history

The Nördliche Neustadt was built from 1964 as part of the new planned town Halle-Neustadt in the German Democratic Republic . After reunification , Halle-Neustadt was incorporated back into Halle (Saale) in 1990 and divided into four new districts. The Northern New Town is one of them.
