Construction and history

The stadium opened as an open ice rink in 1957 . In 1967, an artificial ice rink was put into operation at the current location, which was given a roof in 1968 under the management of the Project Planning and Technology division of VEB BMK Chemie Halle. In May 1968 the hall was released and opened in time for the workers' festival. In 1973 the hall was modernized. The Central Investment Office Sports Buildings of the State Secretariat for Physical Culture and Sport in Berlin was commissioned with the work.

After the fall of the Wall, the hall was closed because the TÜV found numerous structural and technical defects. Renovation and modernization measures began in 1997 and the ice rink was reopened in 1998 after extensive renovation and adaptation. Since 2008 it has met the requirements for professional ice hockey.

business

The hall was used by the various ice hockey clubs in Halle , including the Saaleteufel, and after their bankruptcy by the Saale Bulls .

In the 1974 men's handball world championship , three group D preliminary round games, one main round I game and one placement round game were played in the converted ice rink.

Flood and closure

The 2013 flood caused damage that led to the cessation of operations and the construction of the new Sparkasse ice dome . The demolition of the ice rink began on February 15, 2016.
